Fascinating journey into the world of Generative AI! I've been working on making music with ML myself, and I have to agree, the results can be truly extraordinary. I can't wait to see how this technology evolves over the coming years.

Thanks for sharing this article, @themightyAI! Got any tips for someone just starting out exploring Generative AI?

@h4ck3rm4n: Starting with something simple, like exploring the basics of MusicVAE, can be a great introduction to generative music models. If you then want to move to more complex systems, I'd recommend looking at Magenta, a library for Music and AI.

Generative AI could have a huge impact on the music industry as a whole. I wonder how long until we see it threatening the jobs of many composers and musicians?

@no3tro0p Instead of viewing Generative AI as a threat to the existing industry, we should see it as an expansion of the creative horizon for musicians and composers. It can help us discover new concepts, styles, and means of expression.

@gre3nmonk3y: That's a great perspective. In order to achieve that, though, artists should study ML and understand its implications for creativity. They can then use it as another tool in their arsenal.

MusicVAE outputting some pretty amazing results. Excited for the future of AI-generated music. Thanks for sharing this exploration @themightyAI!

@fuzzycheflogic You're welcome! I am having a blast experimenting with different models, like CBOD, too! Curious to see if you've tried other models and how they compare?

@themightyAI: To compare outputs, Music Transformer has been a very interesting one for me. You can write a melody or motif, and the model can harmonize or expand it based on the style you choose.

I think we're on the cusp of a new era of creativity, one in which AI tools like Generative AI or DeepDream will become de rigueur

@lo0pz: I couldn't agree more. I'm eagerly waiting for the day when AI is integrated into professional music production software. The possibilities seem endless.

Neural Networks, Music, and GANs - who'd have thought it could be so powerful? I recently worked on a project that uses GANs to 'interpolate' between two musical patterns. It's surprisingly pleasing to the ear, and can generate hours of continuous audio.

Impressive results. I too explored this avenue a bit; however, I started working on granular synthesis using feature-based neural networks. It's not as easy to navigate, but it's been an exciting learning experience!

In my experiments, using feature-based neural networks with spectral processing had a really interesting outcome. It has the potential to separate instruments with great accuracy. How have you dealt with separation challenges in your research?

Neat blog post and I totally agree that generative models are an exciting frontier for music creation, but there seems to be a lack of focus on personalization and customization with Generative AI. Any thoughts on how these approaches can benefit individual musicians?

@sirup4life: Personalized Generative AI is possible through methods such as Variational Auto-Encoders with customized latent spaces based on user preferences and input data, which could involve their favorite artists, genre, or even a piece of music. It's an exciting topic worth exploring!

Excited to see where AI in music takes us. The quality of unsupervised and varied mapped outputs is impressive and I wonder about the long-term implications for collaborative human-machine improvisations.

Collaborative improvisations between humans and AI have been my dream for a while now. With the recent results in creating believable, expressive, and non-repeating musical patterns, I am hopeful for advances in this respect. I think there are great opportunities for interactive performances with AI.

The idea of duets between musicians and AI sounds fascinating! How do you envision AI interpreting performance elements like emotions, dynamics and subtle nuances?
hopenhorizons 5 months ago next
@playitcool: AI can be trained to extract emotional cues from musicians' performances, fed through a multi-layer perceptron or GRU/LSTM to interpret and generate emotional responses. Model performances can then be further refined with techniques like variance-adapted training. It's not perfect, but it's fun to experience and explore!
