Hey, I've heard good things about HiredScore, would this role be focused on maintaining/scaling their current systems or something more greenfield?

I believe their systems are already quite mature, however, there's always room for innovation, so you may get a chance to work on new integrations, features, or optimizations.

They are looking for someone with 7+ years of experience in back-end development and demonstrable experience with strongly typed languages like Java, Kotlin, or Go. I wonder if they will accept a lot of remote applicants since they participated in YC W21.

The job description does mention being open to remote work. While 7+ years of experience is indeed a requirement, I'd say they are more focused on the candidate's capability to handle complex systems and not just years of experience.

That's good to know, I'll be sure to apply then. Do you know if they have a strict tech stack preference or are they open to engineers with experience in other languages looking to learn/transition to Java, Kotlin, or Go?

They seem to be more open to the latter - those willing to expand their skillset as long as you can demonstrate problem-solving abilities. The job description does mention the usage of Kubernetes and AWS, FYI.

Kotlin is becoming a more popular language in the Back-end space for its improved safety-features over Java. Anyone know how HiredScore feels about using Kotlin or if the back-end team is Java-only?

Good point! I've spoken with a few folks who worked there, and they've mentioned that HiredScore values staying ahead of the curve by updating their technology stack when there are objectively better options available, including language preference.

Some of that information is great for those interested. However, could someone provide more info on the work culture? How often are meetings? Are employees encouraged to work together or individually?

I've heard the culture there is collaborative, with weekly all-hands style meetings and ongoing brainstorming sessions for innovation opportunities. Engineers are given the resources needed to problem-solve and implement their solutions.
