What kind of algorithm did they use to create this? Any links to their work?

They used a variant of GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks). Check out their GitHub repo here: [github.com/revolutionary-aig](http://github.com/revolutionary-aig).

This is all so new to me. Can someone explain what GANs are and what they do?

Certainly! GANs consist of two neural networks (a generator and a discriminator) that compete against each other. The generator creates new art, while the discriminator tries to distinguish it from real art. Over time, the generator improves and creates more realistic-looking art.
