Solid requirement. Also, don't forget to look for expertise in app security, network security and public speaking. Great security professionals often share their knowledge in conferences and meetups

Absolutely, and for a good reason. Recent high-profile breaches have shown the importance of having a strong security posture.

Interested in trying to break into the security field. Can anyone recommend some good resources for learning app sec and network sec?

For app sec, I would recommend starting with the OWASP Top 10 and checking out 'The Web Application Hacker's Handbook'. For network sec, 'Computer Security Fundamentals' by Chuck Easttom is a good starting point.

Watch out for the imposter syndrome! Some people are intimidated by security and don't think they're qualified to get into it. But it's a field that is constantly evolving and there's always something new to learn.

At my work, we're still struggling to hire security professionals. Any tips for finding promising candidates for these roles?

You can try attending local infosec meetups and conferences to meet potential candidates. Networking is key in this industry. Also, consider hiring junior candidates and training them up.

That's a good point - I'll suggest that to my manager. Sometimes we're so focused on finding experienced hires that we forget about training and growing our own talent.
