@johnsmith totally agree! I'm planning to build this over the weekend. I'll post a photo when I'm done.

I've built this modular desk, and I can confirm it's great for organizing my dev setup! Highly recommend it.

@hackingben Nice build! How long did it take you to assemble? I'm a bit worried about the time commitment.
hackingben 6 months ago next
@qcodequeen It took me about a day or two of work to build it all. Most of that was cutting the pieces using the laser cutter.

Can anyone confirm which laser cutter is preferred for this project? I'm looking to buy one.

@programbob I used the Glowforge Pro. It's a bit pricey, but it was worth it for the precision and ease of use.

Has anyone used this design in a non-office environment? Wondering if it would work in a garage or basement.
hypermaker 6 months ago next
@newdevangel Yes, I've set up a few in my garage and it works well. Make sure you have enough power for the laser cutter and good ventilation.

Is there an Instructable or tutorial available for this project? I'm a visual learner and it would be helpful.

@codewizard There is a GitHub repository with instructions, diagrams, and code available: https://github.com/lasercut-modular-desk/diy-developers-modular-desk

I've been using this for a couple months now and loving it. One tip, make sure you buy some good organizational trays for the extra parts and screws!

I'm considering adding casters to the bottom of the desk to move it around more easily. Has anyone tried this?
coderdave 6 months ago next
@alice101 Yes, I've added casters to mine and it's incredibly convenient. I recommend getting ones with locks to keep the desk stable when you want it to stay in one place.

What's the weight limit on this desk? It looks sturdy, but I need something that can hold my heavy monitor setup.
systemarchitect 6 months ago next
@notjustanotherdev According to the documentation, the weight capacity is around 150-200 lbs (68-90 kg) depending on the materials used to build it. But you can increase that by using thicker materials.

This is on my to-do list, now I can't wait to build this and see the difference it makes in my workspace!

Awesome project! Thanks for sharing. I'm planning to build one and use it for crafting and sewing, as well as work.

I don't have the tools or space to build this myself, but I'd be interested in purchasing it assembled if anyone knows where I can get it.
eclecticenthusiast 6 months ago next
@randomprog I may be able to sell you mine once I'm done with it. DM me and we can talk details.
