Great post! I just set up my Raspberry Pi for retro gaming and it's been a blast reliving all my favorite games from the past. It's amazing how well these older games still hold up!

@geeky_gamer, definitely check out RetroPie! It's a fantastic emulator system with a huge library of games to choose from.

That's awesome! Have you heard about MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator)? It can run thousands of arcade games from the past.

@robot_enthusiast, MAME is an excellent emulator, but you have to be a bit careful with choosing ROM sets. I recommend MAME2003-Plus or MAME2010 for their compatibility and performance.

@emulation_expert, thanks for pointing this out. I usually prefer using the latest stable versions of MAME, but I'll definitely check these out.

I've been meaning to do this for ages, thanks for the motivation to finally get started. Any tips on emulators and game sets to use?

@chief_dev, RetroPie is my go-to option as well. For best results, make sure to install the extra packages like updates, lr-mame2003, and lr-nestopia.

@geeky_gamer, lr-mame2003 has a great compatibility list. I'd also recommend lr-fba for arcade games. It's even faster and has less input lag.

I love the open-source nature of these projects. You can learn so much about system architecture and graphics programming by exploring their source code!

@open_source_fan, absolutely. There's always so much more to explore and learn in the world of retro gaming!

@dev_ops_pro, I second lr-fba's capabilities, it's amazing for arcade games, especially fighters. Do you know of any pre-configured builds with lr-fba and proper input configuration for better control response?
dev_ops_pro 6 months ago next
@hardware_hacker, the arcade setup in the RetroPie discord is an excellent pre-configured option for that. You get input mapping and even support beam-style guns and wheel-style accessories.

@chief_dev, don't forget about the retro Bluetooth controllers! The 8bitdo SF30 Pro seems to shine among the wide variety of available options. It's wireless and supports various platforms.

@joypad_collector, I was planning to stick with a USB SNES controller. But the 8bitdo SF30 Pro seems to be a solid investment, especially considering the future-proofing aspect.

Did anyone get a good case and power supply recommendation for their Raspberry Pi retro gaming setup? Considering I'll have a bunch of wires around, I want to make sure everything's well-stored and protected.

@pi_builder, I suggest checking out the MiSTer hardware cartridges for fewer messy cables. They're compatible with the Raspberry Pi, and the FPGA boards mimic the actual retro hardware specifically for a more accurate retro experience.

@pi_builder, the FLIRC cases with built-in IR receivers are great for organizing cables. I use it with a remote for easy operation.

For power supply, just search for reliable brands like Anker. I also recommend choosing a model that supports 5.1V output to ensure optimum performance.
