Fascinating project! I'm curious if this technology has the potential to scale to support electric vehicles (EVs) and grid storage.

The solid-state technology in this battery can store more energy in a given volume compared to standard lithium-ion batteries. Assuming these energy densities can be replicated in larger batteries with mass production, it could be a viable solution for EVs and grid storage.

I hope this technology reaches mass production quickly and helps us manage the peak load issues on the grid. A more efficient grid can save tons of money and mitigate mitigate our reliance on fossil fuels.

That was my first thought too, but is cost a possible barrier to entry? How does the cost of this new technology compare to traditional lithium-ion batteries?

That's an excellent question, Paula. While the author did not extensively discuss costs, I wonder if research grants and focused R&D can help bridge the gap between the price of solid-state and standard lithium-ion batteries.

It's fascinating to see what can be accomplished with home-built hardware. However, commercial production is a whole different beast.

As a hardware enthusiast, I'm amazed at this achievement. I'm interested to know more about any potential safety benefits that the solid-state technology can provide compared to traditional batteries.

Great point, Matthew. Battery safety is a significant factor in deploying them on a large scale. While there haven't been extensive safety studies, a solid-state battery does not contain flammable liquid electrolytes, which can lower the risk of thermal runaway.

Are there any plans for mass production regarding the battery? I wonder how the monolithic approach can be scaled for commercial production while maintaining safety and performance standards.

This is a big step forward! Any thoughts on sharing the battery design data openly so that others can replicate your results and possibly enhance them?
