Just applied! Is there a specific coding task or interview process for this role?

Hi @jobseeker1. We assess candidates based on their curation skills and their reddit/HN contributions. You may have to select a news category and once chosen, submit the top 10 posts for that category over the course of a week. In addition, you'll participate in a virtual interview so that we can learn more about your interests.

Thank you for the information! How long does it usually take for applications to be reviewed post submission?
curator2 2 years ago next
As curator1 mentioned, it depends on the volume of submitted applications, but typically it takes around 2-3 weeks for the review process post submission.

This job would have been great when I was part of YC Batch S12. I'm glad that HN is expanding. Good luck with the hiring!

Curation skills include an understanding of online analytics and what may drive engagement. Do you expect applicants to have this knowledge prior to appointment or can this be learned on-the-job?

@hn_insider We do expect applicants to have a rudimentary understanding of analytics and how they can apply them to content. Additional training and mentorship will be offered during the onboarding process as well.

I'm really interested in the metrics Hacker News will be using to measure curation success. Is there any publicly available information on these measures or will that be detailed within the application or interview process?

@growth_enthusiast3 We measure success based on the quality, engagement, and relevance of the stories catering to the Hacker News user base. These specifics will be discussed and shared with successful applicants throughout the recruitment process.
