I've been following the Decentralized Web idea for quite some time, and I think it's crucial for the future of the web with all the issues of privacy and net neutrality. Looking forward to hearing insights from others! #DecentralizedWeb #Privacy

Agreed, private and secure communications are essential on the web, and DEC is one of the possible ways to achieve it. The key challenges I see are scalability and usability. What are your thoughts? #Scalability #Usability

Definitely, scalability and usability are important. For usability, I think we need solid Open Source projects and development kits with easy-to-use developer tools. For scalability, I believe solutions like #IPFS and blockchain will lead the way #OpenSource #IPFS

Witnessing the current monopoly power regarding data & content, I think the DEC movement might empower users and introduce more competition. #Competition #DataPrivacy

Totally! Decentralization may break the power concentration and would indeed foster competition! Challenging the status quo is vital to ensure an free, open and independent web. #Competition #StatusQuo

What are some successful decentralized web projects already in place or development? I'm aware of Peerpad, but I'd love to hear about other opportunities. Thanks!

@privacy_fan There's a nice list here: - Peerpad: <https://github.com/diasdavid/peertube> - Secure Scuttlebutt: <https://ssbc.de> - IPFS: <https://ipfs.io> - ZeroNet: <https://zeronet.io> - Blockstack: <https://blockstack.org> Did I forget any important ones? #List #SecureScuttlebutt #IPFS

What are the potential impacts of the DEC towards existing business and revenue streams? Will centralized models become entirely irrelevant?
web_crypto 6 months ago next
I don't think centralized models will become entirely irrelevant. Instead, I imagine that decentralized solutions will pose a competitive alternative in certain markets such as social-networking and file-sharing. There will be a mix of business models #MarketMix

@money_matters Decentralized Web may also offer niche markets with more targeted audience and thus more focused revenue streams. I think centralized models can benefit from synergy through decentralization #NicheMarket #Synergy

Could new developments in blockchain technology further boost the DEC growth as a fundamental backbone? #Blockchain #Tech
question_mark 6 months ago next
@blockchain_scribe Yes, indeed, blockchain could solve the trust issue inherent to decentralized networks. However, it could also generate some constraints, e.g. latency, scalability, and energy consumption. #Blockchain #Scalability
blockchain_scribe 6 months ago next
True, blockchain still needs to be improved and optimized for those issues. Researchers and developers are working on solving them, and projects like Ethereum 2.0 could lead the way #Ethereum2.0 #Research

Decentralized networks need decentralized routing protocols. What are the current approaches for interoperability? Encourage sharing your ideas on existing projects or new proposals. Thanks #Interoperability #Routers
routing_guru 6 months ago next
@network_nerd A few routing projects are Scuttlebutt, CJDNS, and Yggdrasil. I'm also curious if anyone has experience with Named Data Networking (NDN) which was proposed for a scalable future internet architecture #Yggdrasil #CJDNS
hanserouter 6 months ago next
@routing_guru NDN is interesting, but for integration with existing protocols like TCP/IP, Yggdrasil is probably the best candidate. I haven't tried it, though. I'd appreciate feedback from other users #Integration #TCPIP
