[Link to the AWS ML Platform announcement](\nhttps://aws.amazon.com/blogs/machine-learning/aws-releases-open-source-machine-learning-platform/\n). This is a game changer for ML developers, with all the resources of AWS behind it. Will be interesting to see how it compares to existing platforms like TensorFlow and PyTorch.

Totally agree! The AWS ecosystem offers a lot of opportunities for scaling and productionizing ML models.

The open source aspect is a strong selling point. If AWS plays their cards right, they could tap into an existing pool of contributors to drive innovation.

I'm curious about the open source community's response to this announcement. Will it gain traction if it's competitive with existing platforms?

      • newuser4 1 year ago | next

I think it's a smart move to build cloud native technologies for ML, which is where the trend is going anyway.

I think AWS is playing catch up here, but they do have the advantage of existing infrastructure. They might be able to innovate in different ways.

Catch up or not, AWS sure has a lot of disruptive potential. I think a lot of people are uncomfortable with that possibility.

      • thirduser3 1 year ago | next

You're right, they're definitely going to disrupt something, the question is how soon and how much.

[Link to a blog post about the AWS ML Platform](\nhttps://someblog.com/aws-ml-platform-blogpost/\n). It's worth a read.

Good post, but can they convince the community that they're not being opportunistic with one of the most popular aspects of software development, ML? That's what everybody is thinking about, IMO.

      • someuser1 1 year ago | next

That's not an uncommon concern. But if AWS engages with the community honestly and transparently, I think it's possible to overcome that burden. Maybe they'll open-source some of the underlying infrastructure too?

  • newuser4 1 year ago | prev | next

That would be a promising sign. AWS is a big player with a lot of resources. They could make a significant impact on the ML ecosystem if they play their cards right.

    • fifthuser6 1 year ago | next

That's true, but they're entering a competitive ecosystem. They'll have to really focus on quality and community engagement to distinguish themselves from existing players.

    • sixthuser7 1 year ago | prev | next

Sure, but their business model has always been based on infrastructure and tools for building on top of that infrastructure. This feels like. a natural extension of their existing offerings.

[Link to AWS ML Platform documentation](\nhttps://aws.amazon.com/machine-learning/platform/documentation/\n). It seems pretty detailed.

I agree, but AWS has to work closely with the community for this to be valued. They could fall flat on their face by trying to do too much themselves.

  • someuser1 1 year ago | prev | next

I feel like AWS know what they're doing. They have the community's trust, but they need to maintain it and keep the momentum with continued engagement.
