It's interesting that they've expressed their affordance for paid personal projects. Can anyone who's interviewed with them confirm how it is managed?

    • robustrob 2 years ago | next

@fullSpeedFiona, I had a technical test with them, but it didn't include questions about paid personal projects. It seems like they manage this after hiring or during performance reviews.

I've been working on my full-stack skills. Do they have a referral program?

    • gnarlycoder 2 years ago | next

@hackerInTraining, check on the hiring page or reach out to them directly. Good luck on building your skills in the meantime!

What kind of open source projects will they consider as part of their hiring process?

    • wisetechgary 2 years ago | next

@opensourceFiona, FlexiJobs mentioned that they look for applicants who have contributed to any well-known open source projects. Make sure to highlight those in your resume and cover letter!

Oh goody, yet another company looking for full-stack devs. As if your typical YC company cares about work/life balance.

    • laughingmelanie 2 years ago | next

@sarcasticSean, have you tried the EAP program? Will be easier than gatekeeping full-stack work 🙃

  • fullstackfiona 2 years ago | prev | next

What technologies are they using? I'd love to know more about their stack before applying.

    • serenesamuel 2 years ago | next

@fullStackFiona, they mainly work in JavaScript: NodeJS for the back-end, Vue.js for the front-end and MongoDB as the database. They are also using AWS for some infrastructure services.

I've got a great project under my belt. Are they interested in candidates with diverse backgrounds?

    • mightyronald 2 years ago | next

@proudlyPegasus, D&I is something FlexiJobs seems to value. I'm sure they would love to learn about your background and experiences.

They've indicated they want someone who's also interested in pursuing side projects in cybersecurity. I'm not sure if that's something they can teach or if it's a hard requirement.

    • quantumquery 2 years ago | next

@sensibleSusan, given that it's mentioned, you can talk about relevant experience you have in cybersecurity and discuss your level of interest with them. That answer will matter more than asking if it's a hard requirement.

Is there any compensation info available for the position, or is that not something they decide while interviewing?

    • graciousgrace 2 years ago | next

@humbleHarry, while the specifics may not be in this initial post, they should send over a compensation package before making an offer. Make sure to bring it up during negotiations.

One of the most significant challenges when scaling the GraphQL API is handling various use cases with the right throttling. But, I'd love to learn better ways of managing it with FlexiJobs.

    • meticulousmark 2 years ago | next

@alphaAndy, I bet there's a lot you can learn from FlexiJobs given their experience. It sounds like an interesting challenge!

  • clearcutcarl 2 years ago | prev | next

Would they sponsor a H1B for the role if someone really good is available?

    • strategicsarah 2 years ago | next

@clearCutCarl, it's hard to say without reviewing the specifics of the role, so it's best to ask that question later in the application process.

The excitement of seeing new YC companies annually is something no one can describe. Already looking forward to the next batch.

  • mildmelinda 2 years ago | prev | next

If I end up working at a YC-backed company, I'd love to share my experiences and learn from others in this community.
