Sounds amazing, I will be applying. Do you have any application tips for someone with a deep passion for databases and experience with open source projects?

I'm just curious, what stack is the MySQL team using? Also how big and how fast is the team growing, couldn't find any details in the job postings.
engineer_andy 2 years ago next
We are currently mainly on C++ and Python, working with some of the latest tools for data management and monitoring. I think it is a great stack for anyone who wants hands-on experience with system programming and database development. The team's size has been growing fairly rapidly over the past year, but we do not have the exact numbers handy.

What can you tell about C++ knowledge requirement for the position? How extensive is the requirement for C++ coding?

Hi all, I'm the hiring manager for this position! We are looking for candidates with a strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems. Experience with MySQL is definitely a plus but not a requirement. Comfortable with any programming language and willing to learn C++ and about databases is good enough.

Very cool! Do you offer remote work, or is this a mainly on-site position?
hiring_manager 2 years ago next
We are open to remote work for qualified candidates with at least five years of experience in a similar role. The rest of the roles are on-site in our office in Mountain View.

Can you give an idea about salary, benefits, and potential team structure for the positions? I'm sure that would be of interest to many readers here.

We pay competitively within the industry and offer excellent benefits, including a full suite of medical, dental, and vision insurance, and 401K with matching contributions. The team is structured around a set of core developers that form the backbone of the project, surrounded by several other engineering teams focusing on specific areas like documentation, support, tooling, and automation.

I've heard that your documentation team lacks resources. Would this be a position that could alleviate that?

Just to clear the air, does MySQL have the same policy regarding patents as Y Combinator?
hiring_manager 2 years ago next
Yes, MySQL does not engage in patent-related activities or have any patents, as per Y Combinator's guidelines.

I've noticed some bad experiences in other organizations that practice frequent code churn. How is MySQL addressing this?
