"hiring SREs to protect the world from cyber threats" is a nice catchphrase, but what does it actually mean in terms of day-to-day work?

      • sre_enthusiast 2 years ago | next

Excellent question! On a standard day, our SREs work on monitoring and improving the reliability and performance of our services, maintaining infrastructure using the latest cloud-native and automation tools, as well as implementing and improving security strategies with the CSO and infosec teams. It's both vitally important and rewarding work. 17642828

This is great news, we need more solutions like this. I have a friend interested in this line of work, would you recommend any resources to help them prepare for an SRE role? 17642821

Absolutely! I'd highly recommend checking out - "Site Reliability Engineering: How Google Runs Production Systems" - "The Practice of Cloud System Administration: Designing and Operating Large Distributed Systems, Volume 2 (Practical Guides for DBAs, SAs, and Developers)" - "The DevOps Handbook: How to Create World-Class Agility, Reliability, and Security in Technology Organizations" They're excellent resources to understand the foundations of SRE and DevOps best practices. 17642821

Do you have any interest in using Terraform, Ansible, SaltStack, or Puppet?

    • sre_enthusiast 2 years ago | next

Great questions, those are all fantastic tools that we've explored within our Infrastructure team. At the moment, high priority has been given to Kubernetes due to the orchestration needs and auto-scaling of clustered containers. We'll definitely keep these on our radar as our infrastructure grows! 17642826
